Ice Fantasies

Since 1992 Joe O’Donoghue and his company, Ice Fantasies, have been custom designing ice sculptures all over the world. Ice sculpting came easily to Joe. In only a few months after creating his first few ice carvings he went right into business, and not long after that Joe found himself on MTV’s Beach House in the Hamptons. This launched his career as a specialist in ice sculpture installation for television, movies, print ads and advertising. Working in this field has led to many collaborations with artists such as, Irving Penn, David La Chapelle, Jeff Koons, Annie Leibowitz, and Judson Baker to name a few.

Television liked the ice as well. Joe and his crew found themselves backstage at Letterman, The Deany Petty show in Canada, How Do They Do That? Souls in New York, as well as several appearances on the Martha Stewart show including a spot as a guest star along with Tony Bennett and Cindi Lauper on the Martha Stewart Christmas special.

One of the High points of Joe’s career has been winning an Emmy award for his work on television commercials for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic winter games. However, despite Joe’s wide, ranging success this ice artist is not finished yet.  “The beauty of the ice is the key”, according to Joe. “ It is naturally awe inspiring whether it is a party ice sculpture for a sixteen year old, or a ten foot tall atlas in the middle of the Rainbow Room celebrating the launch JZ’s world tour.  I love to make the sculpture appear as if it is a splash of water rising up to form the shape.”
